Regent travelled to Swaffham for their latest league game and with Jake Holman on the bus we had the non league equivalent of google maps finding us short cuts all the way. Webster had no Scott Page who was working with Ashley Sauka and Ryan Salter dropping down to the Reserves, Ricky Griggs returning after illness and Dale Brown stepping up after impressing for the Reserves. Terry Rymer and Jake Gould both sporting new fussi haircuts modelled on their hero and brain double Joey Essex. The first half started slowly but after 15 minutes Regent began to play some good football with the home side retreating and sitting behind the ball. Despite having the better of the first half Regent could only really create half chances with Terry Rymer and Liam Whittaker both having shots comfortably saved by the home keeper. Kevin Hughes then saw his volley high over the bar from a corner. With time running out in the half Regent became sloppy and the home side had their best spell in the game. The number 10 hitting a good shot from 25 yards that Dan Beeson saved well to his bottom corner. The home number 9 then had a very good chance in the box but smashed his shot high over the bar. HT 0-0
Regent increased their work rate and intensity in the second half and were rewarded within 5 minutes. The home skipper handling a pass into the box. Liam Whittaker stepped up and was the coolest man in the ground, so causal in fact it was hard to decide what would happen first for Whits, nap time or a goal, thankfully it was a goal just beating he keeper to make it 0-1. 2 minutes later Regent increased their lead after a lovely pass found Terry Rymer who held off the defender, the keeper did well to deny him, Terry reacted first though and slotted home into the empty net for 0-2. The home number 9 then saw his shot again blaze over the bar as they looked for a way back into the game. Regent took full control of the half and the game after 60 minutes when Ricky Griggs played in Terry Rymer who's deflected shot wrong footed the keeper to make it 0-3. Webster made all 3 substitutions and Regent were playing some good football with the home side struggling to contain us and after 70 minutes they couldn't. Keiron Baker playing in Terry Rymer who raggy dolled the skipper before chipping the advancing keeper to make it 0-4. The home skipper then received 2 cautions for dissent as they were reduced to 10 men. Birthday boy Sam Holman completed the scoring after 80 minutes, Keiron Baker on a marauding run was brought down on the edge of the box with Sam Holman bending in the free-kick from 20 yards despite the keeper getting a hand on it he couldn't stop it making it 0-5. With the home side down to 10 and Regent playing well there could have been more goals with Liam Whittaker and Terry Rymer inches away with efforts before Sam Holman saw his shot beat the keeper who had strayed from his goal to clear but the hard ground saw it bounce just over the bar. FT 0-5
A good win against a team who had beaten one of our nearest challengers for promotion midweek and are sitting in the top 7 themselves.
