Regent travelled to Halstead for their latest League game, their 2nd game in 3 days which was the same for most teams in the Thurlow Nunn League. Webster rotated his squad bringing Phil Kelly, Warren Joseph and Charlie Thompson into the starting line up. Regent started the game well and put early pressure onto Halstead and were rewarded after 10 minutes with a direct run by Phil Kelly which saw him play the ball to Ricky Griggs who took one touch before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the top bins to make it 0-1. The home side were working hard to put Regent under pressure but were unable to break a resolute defence and work Dan Beeson. As the half went on Regent took more control and started moving the ball better. Ricky Griggs beating his defender before crossing but the defender managed to clear for a corner, Phil Kelly then saw his volley go just agonisingly wide. After 35 minutes Regent increased their lead from a corner with Kevin Hughes scoring his 3rd goal in as many games with a powerful header from a Ricky Griggs corner to make it 0-2. HT 0-2
Again Halstead were working hard to close down space and try and create openings but it was Regent who created the better chances in a scrappier half. The home keeper saved superbly when Sam Holman's volley seemed to be heading for the top corner. Jake Holman was then denied when his shot from a corner was just smothered to safety by the home keeper. After 68 minutes Halstead were down to 10 men when the Referee rather harshly produced a 2nd yellow card for the Halstead number 7. After some good play through midfield Terry Rymer ran onto a through ball but again the home keeper denied Regent smothering the shot bravely at Rymer's feet. Halstead created their best opportunity of the half with the number 10 bursting into the box but Jamie Clark recovered superbly to stop Dan Beeson being worked and clear to safety. Ricky Griggs then beat the defender before he was stopped by the keeper fairly despite a few triple salco's. FT 0-2
It was always going to be a tough weekend with 2 games in 3 days but again the lads stepped up to the plate and largely controlled both games to get 6 more points in the bag. Poor old Jake Gould had another moment when asked what he had for his roast dinner he replied roast. Merrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
