Regent complete the double over the Jockeys with a 2-0 win.

Newmarket were the visitors to North Road on Saturday looking to avenge their only league defeat this season when Regent won 1-0. With Newmarket top and Regent 3rd it was an important game for both sides as they look to stay in the promotion places and in with a chance of the title. Webster had been scrambling all week to replace the suspended Dan Beeson and with thanks to Stuart at Hadleigh we ended up with a great replacement in Darren Moyes who was with the Regent at the start of the season. Ryan Salter replaced Liam Whittaker and Darren Moyes came in for Beeson in the only changes to last weeks victory with a strong looking bench which included sub keeper Grids. The game started at a good pace with Regent having the better of the early exchanges. Terry Rymer nearly latched onto a through ball but the keeper did well to smother at his feet. Jamie Clark then made a superb run off the back of the 4 but he recovered well to again thwart Regent getting a shot off. Newmarket took time to settle due to early pressure but after 15 minutes they created their first opportunity but the shot was easily gathered by Darren Moyes. After 21 minutes Regent took a deserved lead after some good play from Ricky Griggs and Jamie Clark saw the ball laid back to Warren Joseph, his first time cross was rather scuffed by Phil from 6 yards but the defender could only clear to Sam Holman who passed to Terry Rymer, he unleashed a superb half volley into the far top bins to make it 1-0. Regent continued on the front foot but gradually Newmaket began to control the game with Regent giving away possession too cheaply. Whilst having the better of the last 20 minutes a well organised Regent saw the away side struggle to test Darren Moyes who came and gathered a couple of crosses comfortably. HT 1-0
The boys started the half well and looked likely to increase their lead and after 60 minutes they did after Ricky Griggs beat his defender before cutting back from the byline for Sam Holman who strode onto the ball and calmly slotted into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. Newmarket looked for an instant response and were awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal but Darren Moyes fisted the ball away to safety. Newmarket threw men forward to get back into the game but this just allowed Regent to open them up at will. Terry Rymer timed his run to perfection and bearing down on goal he rounded the keeper but with everybody expecting the net to bulge his left foot shot went wide. Liam Whittaker then replaced Ryan Salter and again shortly after Terry Rymer was again played through, this time his cross for Liam Whittaker was just hacked clear for a corner. Phil Kelly was the next player slotted through and again bearing down on goal we were this time denied when the keeper smothered his shot. Newmarket continued to try and find a way back into the game but Regent looked the more likely to add any goals but with neither side able to Regent saw it home for a valuable 3 points. FT 2-0
A very good win that keeps the run going and more importantly keeps Regent in the promotion places with 10 games left and 5 points clear of the 4th placed team. A few of the boys stayed after where we discovered that Meadows has a lookalike and no it's not Peter Kay or his alias Geraldine!
