A Jamie Clark penalty sees us break the last unbeaten record.

On Saturday we travelled to Newmarket to take on the previously unbeaten Jockeys. The weather was delightful which put the game in doubt, but after a call to Newmarket we travelled hoping the Ref would keep the game on. With 5 minutes to go till the meet, and having done my pre-match star jumps, I was ready for action; unfortunately the same couldn’t be said about Webster. He rang to say he’d just woken up!! After giving me grief all week about my siestas the irony was joyful. The rest of us travelled up with Webby having to come up later in his onesy. We arrived in good time and the pitch looked in good condition despite the weather and was very playable in my opinion. Webster arrived with the kit and after a good warm up there was one change made to the starting team with Ricky Griggs coming in for the suspended Ryan Salter. Peter Brough was called up in to the squad with Tevez and Charlie making up the bench with Pete. We started the game well and were very much on the front foot causing the home side problems. Our first chance came after some good play through midfield found Phil, whose shot was deflected on to the post. We were controlling possession and again, shortly after Pagey went close, a cross from Ricky found Pagey whose header was inches wide. Ricky himself then made a jinking run beating players but the sheer volume of players blocked him out before he could get a shot away. Newmarket looked a threat from set pieces and Kev Hughes miskicked a clearance; their striker turned and swivelled but shot over. We then had a big shout for a penalty when we kept the ball alive from a corner and Pagey saw his shot blocked by what looked like raised hands but the Ref waved it away. Our intensity and play was good and Phil was finding space and gaps but again, when he played through Ricky,we couldn’t find the end product. Ricky beat his fullback but his shot hit the side netting when Webster and I were ready to celebrate. The home side then had their own penalty appeal but the Ref again waved away the call, which from the side looked a well timed tackle by Kev. HT 0-0
We needed to keep our work rate up and in my opinion the home side came out better and the game was more even but again we were the team creating the clear chances. Liam Whittaker hitting his left foot shot from 15 yards inches wide. Prolific Jake Holman, who was giving the lads goal scoring tips at half time, then fluffed his lines when after a corner he headed high and handsome and then shortly after another quality delivery from Ricky was knocked down by Kev but Jake again fired over. Midway through the half, Webster made his first change with Charlie coming on for Liam Whittaker. After 80 minutes we took a deserved lead when Ricky played in Pagey out wide and after turning inside the defender his touch was handled by the defender. The Ref awarded a penalty and Clarky stepped up to make it 0-1; his shot was absolutely stanchioned giving the keeper no chance. Tevez and Broughy both came on and the home side threw bodies forward and put some good balls in our box; but the boys were determined and blocked and put their bodies on the line to make sure Beeson was untroubled. With the Ref playing 7 additional minutes, the only blight on the game for us saw Tevez sent off when he kicked out off the ball. It looked a soft decision but in fairness I thought the Ref gave a good all round performance. FT 0-1
So a 4th clean sheet and win which is really showing a change of mentality within the group and also a reward for all the hard work that the lads are putting in at training. There were a few funnies with Webster and his lay in taking pride of place but spare a thought for poor Warren who celebrates his 27th birthday today. With all the lads buzzing and looking for a night out Warren put a dampener on proceedings. Firstly he sat and baby sat his pint for an hour after the game and secondly for his birthday, he’d arranged a night out at the cinema!! With not even kid’s parties doing a good trade at the cinema, Warren had rather over expectantly brought 12 tickets. His only friends are family so poor old Webster and Kev got dragged in to going.
