On Saturday we welcomed Ipswich Wanderers to North Road looking to avenge our recent defeat to them. We had new signing Joe Playle available and he started in goal in place of Churchy. Philbo was out injured which meant a return to the starting line up for Tevez and Warren came back in to the team with Wayne starting on the bench. Once again the pitch was looking decent and the weather was nice for a change, after a good warm up and once again Clarky was let loose on the tunes, never a good idea but we started the game positive with Griggsy starting well and after a trade mark jinky run he shot but was wide with his effort. After 10 minutes another good bit of play down the left found Griggsy whose pass in to the penalty area was latched on to by Gouldy after some great movement but his effort was weak and straight at the keeper. After 18 minutes the away side took the lead, a corner was only cleared to the edge of the box with the ball returned in, we had switched off and their player headed home unopposed from 6 yards to make it 0-1. We lost a bit of belief and went in to our shell and Ipswich carried more off a threat with some long throws in to our box. We defended them reasonably well and Joe wasn’t troubled. Ipswich did go close again when after a throw their player reacted first but his left foot curler was just wide. Towards the end of the half we began to play better and Griggsy was our main threat but we didn’t really create anything of any note. HT 0-1
A good talk at half time with the lads reminded about how we play and what makes us play well and once again the lads responded brilliantly. We came out and were more positive from the off with Morley driving us on. We soon started to pressure the Ipswich defence and after 9 minutes we were level when Morley’s corner was kept alive by Wallis, who found Griggsy, his cross was met by the lethal Jake Holman who is always prolific at training. A good old lefty benson volley and it was nestling in the bottom corner and 1-1. Some more good midfield play and Rymer was found in the box but was ruled just off-side before tucking away. With 20 minutes gone we took the lead, Morley swung in a corner with Hughesy winning the first header and then when it was cleared he met it powerfully again finding Rymer who had held his run well, this time on side his lefty benson volley was dispatched in to the corner, to give the keeper no chance and make it 2-1.Shortly after Wayne replaced Morley and with some neat play between Clarky and Wayne, Tevez made a great run opening up the Ipswich defence but his effort was sliced wide. With time running out Ipswich were awarded a free-kick on the edge of our box, their striker hit a great effort but it hit the underside of the bar before being cleared away. Pooley came on for Clarky and we played the game out to complete a hard earned but deserved victory. FT 2-1
The boys are all in to Voxer now and there is some decent banter flying about with Gouldy taking most of the flak. A few of them headed in to Brightlingsea so I’m sure there will be a fewwww stories about but I was wrapped up watching “ Take me out” with a lovely Koppaberg, gotta give that a look, nice but poor old Webster wasn’t allowed out..
