Away day defeat to title challengers Godmanchester.

On Saturday we made the trip to Godmanchester for our last away trip of the season. We had a full squad although Griggsy was an injury doubt and would need a fitness test. I drove on the way up there and did a sterling job with no dramas and this allowed the lads to rest up with the skipper really happy, as he likes to have nap time. Terry was sporting a new look for the game and like another player, who will be mentioned later is heavily influenced by TOWIE, as he had a reem old side parting, that was gelled to an inch of its life. Before the game, Webster had to wear a Liverpool shirt with Gerrard on the back, as he lost a bet but to be fair even I don’t want to wear that at the moment. He welched out of the bet a little though as he was supposed to wear it all day and did about 1 hour, tops. Joe started in goal replacing Sam and Clarky came in for Griggsy who wasn’t risked, other than that it was the team that started our last league game. The home team started the game better and created a couple of early chances with Joe saving well once and another being cleared off the line. After 15 minutes we settled and created a good chance, after a good run and cross from Tevez found Philbo but for once his touch let him down and his shot was easily saved. Terry then had an opportunity in the box but his shot was fired over. After 23 minutes the home side took the lead when a ball was set back for the skipper, who from 25 yards produced a great finish in to the top bins to make it 1-0. We kept our heads and went close again when Morley played a one-two but his shot went just wide. Just before half time another driving run from midfield, this time by Clarky saw his powerful shot from 25 yards hit Rymer in the back of the head when it looked to be heading on target. HT 1-0
At half time we remained positive as we felt the boys had been the better side and had the larger amount of possession. So with the boys buzzing, Jake Holman delivered a speech which would have some of the greats like Churchill and Martin Luther King turning in their graves. So with the tumble weed sweeping the changing room we headed out. The 2nd half continued the same as the 1st but after 8 minutes, the home side increased their lead with a short taken corner, which was played in to our box and the striker’s header looped in to the top corner to make it 2-0. The home side with the momentum now had us pinned back but we held firm without Joe having to make any saves. After 25 minutes we had a great chance but Tevez could only head wide and shortly after a great ball from Clarky found Tevez but again his chip was agonisingly wide. FT 2-0
So a defeat to Godmanchester who sit joint top of the table was no disgrace but on the day whilst we competed well and had as much of the play, our final ball and finishing, as well as our passing just wasn’t to our usual standards. We now have 3 home games to finish our season against the top 2 and Fakenham, where we will look to continue our good home form.
Jake Gould and Clarky were singing Westlife after the game, as if things couldn’t have got worse, then, little boys body, Warren tried to defend wearing some rascal pants by saying in his little boys voice “ Mario from Towie wears these “ Embarrassed and red faced surely the skippers day couldn’t get worse? We managed to get home safely with Webster driving, (the worst driver ever by the way) but poor Warren was left in a lay by at Coggeshall, much to everyone’s amusement. Decent banter by Webster unlike Clarky, who thought putting a traffic cone on the van, was hugely funny.
