A kev Hughes goal in the 80th minute was enough to see us home despite a penalty miss and a below par performance.

On Saturday we welcomed Fakenham to North Road for our last league game and an end to our first season back in the Eastern Counties League. Unfortunately after a superb game on Monday, Walter had to be split up as Ryan Salter had broken his finger and was in a cast. Kev Hughes returned to the starting line up after missing Monday’s game, with Wayne going in to midfield and Hilly starting, with Tevez dropping to the bench alongside the returning Philbo and Webster. Webster turned up to the game, looking a little like Jack Nicholson, clearly having a bit of a midlife. Before the game Kev had to apply some concealer as he had a big red spot, Rymer also had a big red spot but this was all over his body as he’d had a fewww sunbeds. The game was a bit of a damp squid to be honest and after Monday’s cracker this never lived up to that. The highlight of the half and probably the game was the fact that unbeknown to me, Martha had decided to leave a pair of her lacy knickers attached to my jacket, which Webster was first to spot and I have no defence, I for once was speechless. Chances for either side were limited with neither keeper making a notable save all game. The visitors created their best chance of the half after 30 minutes when the midfielder made a good run to get beyond our defence but his shot was high and wide. When we did play any football Clarky and Rymer were working really hard to create and unsettle the away side and we were nearly rewarded after 35 minutes. Griggsy swung in a corner which Kev knocked down, beating the keeper for Hilly, whose shot was goal bound but handled 6 yards from goal. I would never shout or appeal for a red card but this could be the only decision along with a penalty, however the Referee awarded a penalty but amazingly only showed a yellow card. In the Referees opinion it wasn’t an obvious goal scoring opportunity despite being in the middle of the goal 6 yards out? Yet another poor decision in a season full of them. Rymer stepped up but the keeper saved well, as if to compound the matter. HT 0-0
A change was made, which unfortunately didn’t involve the Referee but with Jake Gould struggling, Philbo came on meaning a slight reshuffle. We worked a lot harder in the half and huffed and puffed but again our final ball or passing in general just wasn’t to our standard. Tevez came on and was soon in the thick of things but after a good ball from Philbo, could only head wide when he should have done better. With 10 minutes to go we made a breakthrough, when a corner was only cleared to the edge, where Philbo picked up and his shot was deflected by Kev Hughes, to trickle in to the bottom corner to make it 1-0. The visitors created their best chance with time running out but again they were wildly wayward. FT 1-0
So a first season back completed and I think everyone, both on and off the pitch will have learned a lot to take in to the next season. A credible 5th place finish, which, we will hope to build on next season. The boys went out, for a much deserved drink or three but not till Rymer had beaten little boys body Warren at arm wrestling. The Geez who does a great job on the pitch and several other jobs, in his role as Chairman, got aboard the Jaeger train and did some proper naughty dancing. Clarky after working really hard during the game and then finally doing a dirty pint, decided to have a bath round someone’s house at 4am!! Random.
