We travelled to Ipswich Wanderers for our latest league game. Webster was without Wallis and Sam Mansfield, which meant a start for Matt Barbour in goal and Jake Holman returned to the starting line up in place of Jake Gould. Too many players seemed to be going through the motions during the warm up and with Clarky playing the Backstreet Boys pre-game it was a surprise that we started reasonably well but after 5 minutes, and the home side’s first attack we went behind. A shot could only be parried out by Matt and their forward tapped home to make it 1-0. The home side were buzzing about and making it hard for us to get in to our rhythm. After a little while we did and a couple of great balls from our wide men just evaded Tevez in the 6 yard box. The home side looked dangerous and were certainly working harder but with less than a minute to go it looked like a stern team talk would see us recover. Once again though some sloppy defending allowed a long throw, to find its way to the winger, whose cross shot again, could only be parried with once again the same player tapping home to make it 2-0. Ht 2-0
After a few home truths we came out much sharper and looking to climb another mountain. We had by far the better of the possession and after 15 minutes got a goal back when Rymer shot from 20 yards and found the bottom corner to make it 2-1. We continued to dictate without really finding our cutting edge. The home side still carried a threat on the break especially with their pacy left winger. Ft 2-1
Another game, where despite having the larger possession in the game, we came away with no points. Hopefully the lessons will soon be learnt and we can match our undoubted ability with work rate. The lads will have a perfect chance to bounce back when we play Stanway Rovers in a friendly at CORNARD on Tuesday 7.45pm kick off.
