Eighteen year old Rob, who has been at Brightlingsea Regent for the past two seasons in the First Team squad and the under 18 Thurlow Youth League side, signs for the Championship club after a successful trial period this summer.

Rob had a trial period last season but was still recovering from a small injury so Millwall asked for Rob to return for three weeks at the beginning of the Championship sides pre-season.

Two weeks into this period Millwall contacted Brightlingsea Regent to agree a deal for Rob to transfer to Millwall leaving Brightlingsea Regent.

First Team Manager Tom Rothery is delighted for Rob “It’s brilliant news for Rob and richly deserved.

He’s shown a great attitude since I’ve been at the club and it’s nice that he’s gone into a professional environment and been able to transfer the qualities that he has shown at Brightlingsea and impress Millwall with these same qualities.

It’s the start of an exciting opportunity for Rob and one that I know he will give his all to and develops with hopefully it resulting in him having a long career as a professional footballer.

It’s most young lads dream so for us to have played a small part in helping him achieve his dream gives everybody at the club huge satisfaction and I know I speak for everybody when I say we are really proud of him.

There are a lot of people who have played a part in Rob reaching where he is now and it would be remiss of me to not give these mention starting from his youth Manager at West Bergholt (Alex White) and James Webster who brought him to Brightlingsea, spotting the potential in Rob and offering him a contract and a place in the First Team squad.

Rob has also been at the Brightlingsea Regent Academy for the past two seasons and so it’s a great feather in their cap and hopefully shows what the Academy and we are trying to do with young players at Brightlingsea Regent and then the coaches with the Under 18’s here and the First Team coaches too.

I’m looking forward to seeing where the journey takes Rob and hopefully this is just the beginning for him”.
