Generous Brightlingsea Regent fans scored at Saturday’s match with a terrific 116.6Kgs of groceries for needy families.

They readily responded to the club’s appeal for foodbank donations and arrived at the home game against Folkestone with armfuls of supplies.

Brightlingsea Foodbank volunteers Win Pomroy, together with Frank Pomroy, Bob Walsh & Katy Bingham Best, received these products at the Taydal Stadium in North Road, Brightlingsea before the match where Regent sailed to a 2 – 0 victory!

Win Pomroy said: “We are extremely grateful to Brightlingsea Regent Football Club for inviting people to bring food donations and were blown away by the terrific response from fans. Thank you all so very much. A special thanks to Denise Stevens and Gavin Aplin for arranging the event and publicising it”

“All these food items will be put into emergency food parcels for families and individuals who find themselves in a crisis, through no fault of their own. This could be things like sudden illness, loss of employment, unexpected large bills and changes to benefits.”

Brightlingsea Regent Football Club Chairman, Terry Doherty, said: “The club was very keen to support this important local cause and our fans have come up trumps. This appeal has been so successful that we hope to do the same again over the coming months.”
