Regent beat Ryman Prem Leiston

Our latest friendly saw us welcome Ryman Premier Side Leiston to North Road. Two successful promotions and a full strength side meant we knew we were in for a tough game and so it proved. We started the game well and held our own with Tevez and Griggsy both having good opportunities but firing wide. Leiston also had a couple of chances but Moysey was alert and saved well with Warren reacting first to clear superbly. We took the lead after 40 minutes when some good interplay between Griggsy and Pagey found Warren out wde, whose first time cross was superbly headed home by the on rushing Charlie Thompson to make it 1-0. HT 1-0
In the second half Leiston moved the ball about even better but once again we defended superbly and were very organised. When Leiston did get through, Moysey again saved superbly, tipping over a header that was destined for the top bins. After 60 minutes Leiston were level though, their new striker Ollie Mann wriggling free before crossing for the number 11 to tap home and make it 1-1. We responded though and 5 minutes later were back in the lead when Griggsy crossed and the away keeper rather fumbled out, for Pagey to tap home and make it 2-1. FT 2-1
A great workout for the boys who should take lots of confidence after a very good game, in which we competed well against a very good side, being organised and not looking out of place against our impressive visitors.
The Reserves also continued their good start to pre-season with a hard fought 0-1 away victory to Gas Reserves with Quinton scoring the winner after less than 30 seconds with a good turn of pace and finish.
The First team’s next game sees us welcome Stanway Rovers to North Road this Friday night 20th July 7.45pm kick off.
