Regent top goal scorer Billy Hunt signs on the dotted line.

Regent striker Billy Hunt has signed a new one year contract.

Billy who scored 24 League goals last season has committed to another season at Brightlingsea Regent despite obvious interest from a number of clubs after an excellent season.

Billy who walked off with three awards at the recent presentation night is a great signal of intent from Brightlingsea as they embark on their second season in the Bostik Premier Division.

Regent Boss Tom Rothery was naturally delighted with the reengagement of striker Hunt and had this to say “Billy has been excellent since I returned to the club and on a personal level that’s really pleasing as I put a lot of faith in Billy when putting him on a contract a couple of weeks into me coming back and he’s shown that to be 100% the correct decision.

Terry, Pip and I met with all the players we wanted to retain in the first week after the season and it really shows the mark of the man in Billy that as soon as we’d met he shook my hand and agreed to sign again straight away.

I know that he has had several approaches and has been offered more than we could offer him in terms of a deal but he’s happy at the club, enjoying his football and feels hugely valued which is excellent.

So many times you hear of players moving for the wrong reasons and I think as a club we are so lucky to have Billy and have a player that is just a great lad, so grounded and humble and for me just a joy to work with.

Last season he was excellent, it was tougher at the end of season for Billy like the team but a lot of that I take responsibility for as he played pretty much every minute as he was so important to us and I didn’t feel we really had enough options to rest him when he needed it.

That’s something that I feel we have done now with the imminent signings and I still feel there’s more to come from Billy, there’s parts of his game that Pip and I are still improving with him and the nice thing with Billy is that you know he wants to improve and he just loves scoring goals so anything that will help him do that he will embrace.

It’s a massive signing for us and I know it’s one that the supporters and everyone connected to Brightlingsea will be pleased about and the fact that it was so straight forward will endear him to the hearts of the supporters even more so”.
